Miyagi Genki Josannshi Team MIJO (Sendai city, Miyagi Pref.)

MIJO stands for Miyagi Genki Josannshi Team. (Genki = Being well, Feeling energetic, Josannshi = Midwife).

Up until December last year, we have all been working individually as part of Miyagi pref. Midwives Association's aid work, and after that, the midwives who wanted to continue to work in aid got together and formed MIJO. Hence we have been working as MIJO since December last year and during this time, we have received 950 cases for parenting support consultation, 150 home visits, and at our workshops, over 800 mothers have attended.

As of 1st July 2013, in Sendai city temporary housing, 11.4% consist of temporary building, and 76.3% consist of community and public buildings made into a temporary housing and they are all spread apart. Our aim is to connect and support those mothers and children living in these areas though holding workshops.
